Garden Rake
A garden rake is a useful implement, although these days you can buy several rakes for different garden jobs. Perhaps the authorities in the small American town of Acworth, Georgia fully appreciate the benefits of a garden rake, as they have an unusual bylaw there which requires all citizens to own a rake. We wouldn’t quite go that far!
Some gardeners these days have forsaken their garden rake in favour of leaf blowers and vacuums, but many still use a wide leaf rake to keep their garden tidy in the autumn. Of course a garden rake has many other uses, including levelling soil and removing small stones and other debris that may have found its way onto your flower beds and borders.
A garden rake can be made from a variety of materials, though the most popular are steel heads and wooden shafts. These are more durable than the cheaper, plastic versions which tend to need replacing much more regularly.
Before you buy a garden rake, think about the work you will be doing with it, and choose the most appropriate rake for the job – for example, a leaf rake is best for clearing your lawn without damaging it but will not work well on hard surfaces.
