Gardening Fork

Before purchasing a garden fork, think about the job you want it to do – it is for digging or scooping, as they do vary in design depending on their purpose.

A garden fork for digging will have square tines (the correct term for the prongs) which penetrate the earth much more easily than a spade. A garden fork for scooping soil has oval or round tines that are curved. This is to help transport material around the garden and these implements will typically have more tines closer together to contain the load.

Garden forks come in a variety of sizes – larger one are usually for general use and digging and smaller models for borders and flower beds, tilling the soil and breaking up clumps of earth.

Made from forged steel or stainless steel, you often get what you pay for with a garden fork, as the cheaper products will not last and over time will bend or break completely. Buy the best quality that you can afford and your garden fork will be a reliable and useful tool in your shed for many, many years.
